Mental Health Is Now the World’s #1 Health Concern
Mental health has become the world’s leading health concern, surpassing cancer and COVID-19. According to the Ipsos Global Health Service Monitor 2023, 44% of people across 31 countries now identify mental health as one of the biggest health issues facing their country, a 17 percentage-point increase since 2018.
Key findings
- Mental health now ranks as the world’s top health concern, identified by 44% of respondents across 31 countries, up 17 percentage points since 2018.
- Stress remains high (30%), while cancer continues to be a major concern (40%). Women report higher concern about mental health than men (50% vs. 38%).
- Healthcare systems are under increasing pressure, with majorities in 25 countries saying access to timely care is becoming more difficult.
The reality is this:
As mental health concerns continue to grow and healthcare systems face increasing demand, workplaces are often where the earliest signs of distress appear.
Withdrawal, irritability, conflict, reduced engagement, and changes in behaviour frequently show up long before someone accesses professional support. Yet many organizations have not equipped their people with the confidence or practical skills to recognize these signs and respond appropriately.
That’s where Crisis-Ready Interventionists® make a difference. Equip your people with the confidence and practical skills to recognize risk early, respond appropriately, and connect colleagues to support.
